Slight improvements

I finally got around to fixing the site navigation to be back how it was before the software upgrade. So now you'll notice the Activity section is now a main category. Unfortunately I can't make it default to being more than 24 hours of time just yet, not sure if I can. It was changed for security reasons and I'm not sure if I can force it to show more than 24 hours by default. But you can still change the time period displayed with the drop down. If you leave that open you can just reload it to see the same time frame with up to date info, which is what I do.

More of the improvements include:
  • Facebook Like box (under side banner)
  • Made subscription banner for top of page to drum up support for the website.
  • Removed larger subscription banner that featured Klan Klan from Macross Frontier.

A few cosmetic changes:
  • Text for top of page changed to be easier to read (signed in area). Was white, now dark blue.
  • Main navigation text is now easier to read. Text shadow removed, inactive links now also have a lighter box to increase readability.

Upgrade mostly done!

Well the upgrade is mostly done, all basic functionality should be back. There are some things that I still need to work on, but for the time being you shouldn't be interrupted while using the website. As before if you notice anything odd please let me know by posting in the bug's thread.

You can now share any topic you want on all the major social networks (Twitter, Facebook, Digg, Google, etc etc.). At the bottom of each topic you'll see a string of icons preceded by "Share this Topic" click the appropriate one to share your favorite topics with your social network friends! I'm going to see if I can put it above and below the topics, but that's a back burner item.

Sorry for changing the look/theme of the website so soon after it's re-launch, but the previous theme was very broken and incompatible with the new version of the forum. So I spent most of yesterday trying to make it work, only to see it would take me a ton more time than just getting a new theme and re-working it like before for the website. There shouldn't be any more major updates to the software in the foreseeable future, so hopefully the theme won't change for a long time now.

The forum was updated to the latest version today so there will be a few bugs or things that don't display right until I fix the template to work 100% with the new version, and include all the new features. Report what oddities you find in the same thread as before. Be sure to read the previously reported bugs to make sure you don't mention the same thing as someone else.

New feature you may have missed... BLOGS!

User is offline

Yep that's right! We have access to make our own personal blogs! Everyone can access this, I will be adding blog perks to paying members so stay tuned for that. So start your blog today, let everyone see what you're doing day to day! Comment on other blogs, read what your friends are up to!

Also because we now have blogs, please put your personal day to day type of stuff in your own blog, don't start threads and topics for something you should be blogging about instead. If this gets to be an issue we'll lock threads and talk to you, giving you time to move it to your blog. And delete the original topic when it is taken care of.

People can comment on your blogs just like they can a thread, so you're not losing any functionality by posting to your blog. Blogging even gives you more options than just making a thread, you can submit it instantly to places like Digg, Facebook, StumbleUpon, etc! You even get your own RSS feed people can subscribe to in order to keep up with your blog here on Crossplay.net. You can also track people's blogs (basically subscribing) and you'll get an email every time they write something new.

There are a lot of great features for the blog, I'm sure I missed quite a few of them, and I'm sure there are more I can add once I sit down and see just what I can make it do. So please feel free to start your own blog today. As an example blog, I've been using mine a bit so please check it out by clicking the link below.

If you've seen a few people with Platinum as their user group, here's the explanation as to why. Those were the people that donated to keep the site alive, if I missed anyone PM me your email that you donated with and I'll put you in with the Platinum group for a year. Anyway, to thank these wonderful people I gave them a year's worth of Platinum membership.

And to encourage others to donate to the website, I have set up a membership system that give you a full year of benefits for as little as $5! You seriously can't beat that. Basically this is a way that you get some nice stuff back for donating. If you want to see something else thrown in here as an incentive please reply to this and I'll see what I can do. Soon I will add in some benefits for the new Blogging system I installed. So look for those blogging benefits to be added!

Below are the membership details, Normal is what you get for free, everything else goes up by $5 for each step up. (Also, if anyone has some better names for the groups than precious metals let me know!)

Show us your sign!

Venus-chan posted about this in her thread called Transgender article on CNN and it inspired me to start this! I want the website to be more interactive and involved, so lets give this a shot!

Your mission:

  • Go to the CNN page that Venus linked us to and view all the signs other ladies and gents created.
  • Make your own creative, funny, inspirational sign
  • Take a picture of yourself with the sign and put it in this thread!

Rules of submission:

  • They obviously have to follow the theme established by CNN.
  • Nothing that's against our pre-exisiting website rules for photos
  • Preferably dress as your true gender, but if you want to wear a cosplay outfit that's fine too.
  • I may make this into a video or slide show when we're done with it all, if we get enough entries. So submitting something here is agreeing to let me put it in a video that may end up on YouTube or some picture service that lets me make slideshows.

CP! Let's get creative!

Welcome to the new Crossplay.net!

Finally the new forum software is installed. There are still some things we have to do so please be patient, if you notice a bug please report it in the bug reporting thread and no where else. If you are reporting a bug, look BEFORE you post to see if someone else already reported it. If someone else did, then just post any extra information you have in there. If you have no extra/helpful information, do not add to the thread. And for the love of God don't just go "I see this too!". I swear if you start doing this, I'll set up a special member group called "Dunces" and stick you in the corner for a month. =P

The forums will be reorganized, some less popular/unused sections will be removed, etc. So don't freak out if you come in one day and can't find your topic, just go looking for it because odds are I did some house cleaning and moved it somewhere else.

Member levels will be initiated, meaning for a certain level of donation (IE: $5 a year or more) you will get added benefits on the website. What you get and how much hasn't been determined, so don't ask just yet because I don't know. I will be giving those who donated these benefits because they, and only they, made this website last another year, and this upgrade possible. So thank you again to those who donated, you guys/gals seriously rock!

We are also looking into company sponsorship in the way of advertisements. But these sponsors will be in line with our interests here on Crossplay.net. I am in talks with a breast form store right now about this, and seriously I would recommend them to anyone. Even before I approached them about advertising, they were going the extra mile for me just as the average customer. So keep an eye out for their advertisements on here, and please do not block ads and at least visit their site and check out what they have.

I am also going to be doing some great new projects for the website, I won't give out all the details because the last time I did that a certain competing website stole my ideas and paid people to make that content for them. So keep an eye out for wonderful new content on Crossplay.net!

As always, if you have any suggestions please feel free to share them in the appropriate forum. I will entertain all sane ideas, and will laugh and point at the insane ones. Also, you can now comment on news items, so feel free to share your thoughts on the new website by responding to this! We want to hear what you think! But make sure BUG REPORTS go only to the BUG REPORT section. Replying to this is for opinions only.
